The Blender window is divided upward into a number of rectangles called Areas. Areas reserve screen space for Editors, such as the 3D Viewport, or the Outliner. In general an Editor provides a style to view and change your piece of work through a specific part of Blender. Resizing

Splitting

Splitting an expanse will create a new area. Joining

Ctrl-Spacebar
